The U.S. Women’s Street Hockey team returned from Prague with a 2-4 record, losing in the Bronze medal game to the Czech Republic. The Americans, led by Gina D’Amaro, Lisa Bac and Callie Housser, played their first game against the Czech Republic losing 3-0. The Czech Republic pressured the U.S. for most of the game. The U.S. did have scoring opportunities but were turned away by Czech goalie Bacevova.
The U.S. then faced Canada losing 5-0. The Canadians had an explosive attack that rang up a total of 44 shots on the U.S. A game that had a total of 15 penalties between the two teams had Canada scoring 2 power play goals. In the third game, the U.S. offense exploded for 10 goals beating Switzerland 10-2. The U.S. used the momentum to face their next opponent Austria. They came out on top 6-0. This game was an important win for the U.S. as it would propel them into the semi-finals. The U.S. faced Canada in the semi-final losing 9-0. They now would play the Czech Republic for the Bronze medal. The U.S. lost 3-0 placing fourth overall. It was a fast paced game going end to end. In the end it may have been penalties that hurt the U.S., 4 penalties total and 2 power play goals.
The U.S. is looking forward to 2011 and hopes to build on what has been started. The next World Cup will be held in Slovakia.
The 2007 Inaugural Women's World Cup in street hockey was held in June in Ratingen, Germany. Teams invited to participate in the tournament included Canada, USA, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Team USA competed against top seeded Canada first, losing a hard fought game 3-0 but bounced back from this early loss beating both Germany and Austria. They then went on to tie Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
This brought the team's overall record at the World Championship's to 2-1-2 which established the USA as one of the premier teams in the women's division. In October the team traveled to Ontario, Canada where they competed in the World Outdoor Provincial Championships and came away as tournament champions. This tournament victory brought Team USA into the national spotlight as a team to watch out for.
